The Spencer Estate is the mansion the Resident Evil one takes place in. There were many things cut out of RE1, including the mention of Trevor Spencer himself. Trevor's letters that were left around the mansion were also cut, along with other traps that Spencer set up. One trap included blood pouring from the walls spelling out "You have to now or else" to try and scare away any unwanted visitors. Apparently, Spencer found the T-virus, and built his mansion. Then, Umbrella wanted to take it from him, so Spencer set up all the traps and puzzles in his house. Soon after that, Umbrella came to Raccoon City with fake papers saying that the mansion was theirs, so they built the labs underground and finally found Spencer dead in one of the rooms of the mansion. They buried him in an underground grave. You do actually see the grave in the game too. Remember after you fight the snake the first time and there's that hole in the floor? Well, when you go down the hole, you see a grave, Spencer's grave. But, it's a fake grave, you push a button on it and it opens up to a secret passage. Pretty cool, huh? Yeah, I thought so too. The reason the letters were cut out is because they revealed too much of the mansion's past, and Capcom didn't think Spencer was an important part of RE, well until RE: CV, which mentions Spencer several times.
